The UFC has a stacked card Saturday to celebrate its 300th pay-per-view event. This is the perfect opportunity for the Compas to share their favorite UFC moment. I’m sure at least one or two moments will involve Conor McGregor. What about Ronda Rousey? Or maybe Rampage Jackson, friend of the Compas on the Beat show.
The Compas will also provide predictions for the main event between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill, another friend of the show. To conclude the UFC roundtable, the Compas will pick their favorite fight on the loaded card.
Gilberto Manzano
Favorite UFC memory: UFC 195: Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit
This was the fight that got me hooked with MMA. Yes, I had interest whenever Brock Lesnar, Chuck Liddell and Rampage Jackson fought years earlier, but I was a casual fan at the time. I was ringside for the underrated classic between Lawler and Condit. It was my first year working for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and my good friend Adam Hill allowed me to tag along. If you haven’t watched, do yourself a favor and watch these two warriors beat the crap out of each other.
Best fight on the 300 card: Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic
This is my pick for fight of the night. The betting odds are almost 50-50, with Rakic as a -120 favorite over the former light heavyweight champion. Pumped for this match!
Main event prediction: Pereira by fourth-round TKO
I love Hill because he was great on the show. But Pereira’s length and devastating kicks will be too much to overcome.
Fernando Ramirez
Favorite UFC memory: UFC 205: Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez
It was a classic because Conor won both belts then gave us a great moment after winning the belts. The double champ does what he wants.
Best fight on the 300 card: Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan
There is always a fight that steals the show. This will be it. Zhang has yet to defeat Thug Rose. Would love to see that in the future.
Main event prediction: Jamahal Hill victory
Whenever a champion loses his belt because of injury, they come back and regain it. Hill is next.
Dan in Daygo
Favorite UFC memory: UFC 193: Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm.
Why? Because it exposed Ronda. I can’t stand her.
Best fight on the 300 card: Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill
It means Hill can regain the championship he never lost.
Main event prediction: My Boy Jamahal Hill will win this! Write it down. Take notes. Whatever. He is winning the championship back.
Victor Corona
Favorite UFC memory: UFC 202: Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2
This was the fight that got me into watching the UFC. This was an epic five-round fight that lived up to the hype. It’s not often that the sequel turns out to be better than the original but in this case it was.
Best fight on the 300 card: The main event is by far the best fight on paper. Alex Pereira has been on a tear the last couple of years and he’s going up against the former champ Jamahal Hill, who had to vacate the belt due to injury.
Main event prediction: Pereira by second-round KO
It’s hard for any fighter to come back from a long layoff, let alone be thrown into a title fight versus a dude like Pereira who’s been on a roll. If Hill would’ve had some tune up fights, this would be a harder fight to predict.
