The Compas share their predictions for Canelo Alvarez vs. Oscar De La Hoya. Oh, wait. Canelo is actually fighting Jaime Munguia Saturday night in Las Vegas, in case we all forgot.

Maybe one day the superstar Mexican fighter and the Golden Boy will throw it down in the ring. Hey, it’s possible nowadays, with Jake Paul and Mike Tyson meeting in a sanctioned bout. Boxing is strange sometimes.

Here's the fight night info before we get started.

When: Saturday, T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas

PPV price: $89.99 (Prime Video/DAZN)

Ring walks: 8 p.m. PT

All right, let’s get to the real fight. Canelo-Munguia predictions below.

Canelo-Munguia prediction: Alvarez by split decision

With Alvarez fighting a younger fighter with power, I’m expecting this fight to be close and it might contend for fight of the year in 2024. But I couldn’t bring myself to pick Munguia, who’s six years younger than Alvarez, because of his poor defense and footwork.

Munguia might be eating many uppercuts from Alvarez, but hey, at least we know the Mexican warrior will unleash several punches of his own. I’ll save my Canelo upset for another young, emerging fighter … David Benavidez????

Canelo-Munguia prediction: Canelo by unanimous decision

Father time is undefeated. While he hasn’t made contact with Canelo yet, he is creeping up. Munguia has a chance to shock the world but I just don’t see it happening.

Canelo doesn’t really KO people anymore because he drags on the fight and carries them. So expect him to win then be asked about a potential fight against Benavidez and then Canelo says, “Whatever the fans want. If they want the fight, we will make it happen.” Just for him to fight Dan in Daygo come September.

Canelo-Munguia prediction: Canelo by unanimous decision

Went back and forth on my prediction for this fight. The reason being is that Canelo hasn’t looked good in years. He needs to win this fight to set up bigger money fights for himself as he gets close to calling it a career.

On the other side, you have the embodiment of a Mexican fighter in Munguía. He’s going to brawl and give you an exciting fight. The problem with that is he has no defense and leaves his chin exposed. In order to pull the upset, he will need to put the pressure on Canelo without getting caught with a power punch that ends the fight.

At the end of the day, I’m choosing what’s best for boxing, a sport in need of their big stars like Canelo to carry the sport. Munguia will make this fight close by throwing way more punches than Canelo. The fight will be won by Canelo with his jab and defense that will get him those 50/50 rounds.

Dan in Daygo

Canelo-Munguia prediction: Munguia split decision

Why not?! Remember this … Dan in Daygo picked Ryan Garcia to win two weeks ago against Devin Haney. I will do it again. Tired of Canelo. TJ kid will make some noise. Plus, Oscar would laugh in his face.

Who wins: Canelo or Munguia?

  • Canelo Alvarez

  • Jaime Munguia
